Let’s talk about the party position of Pakistan People’s Party PPP in Punjab. If we further divide Punjab into four parts i.e. Central Punjab, South Punjab, North Punjab and West Punjab. They are further divided into divisions and districts but let’s start with overall situation of each part of Punjab and then we will talk about the divisions and districts and particular constituencies.
If we talk about central Punjab which is based on basically in three divisions Lahore, Gujranwala and Sheikhpura. In 2013 General Election PPPP was not able to get a single seat from this region and let me clear you one thing up till now there is no chance to get a single seat from central Punjab. In Urban Punjab, the major fight will be between PML-N vs. PTI.
Lahore which is the capital of Punjab the situation in capital is very alarming for PPPP as everyone saw in past by-elections but except NA-130 previously and now it’s NA135 from where PPPP Lahore president and Former MNA Samina Khalid Ghurki is going to contest election has a little bit chance but after the joining of more than half of Ghurki family into PTI and most Likely Chaudhary Ijaz Diyal is going to contest on PTI ticket so it will be good fight to see but PTI and PML-N has clear edge on PPP in this constituency as well.
Let’s Talk about Famous faces of PPP from central Punjab who are going to contest election Chaudhary Manzoor Ahmed who will be fighting from Kasur NA-139, Qamar Zaman Qaira from Gujarat. Recently a notable leader from central Punjab Nadeem Afzal Chan left PPP and joined PTI which is another big loss for PPPP.
While talking about North Punjab the big name came in our mind is Ex-Prime Minister and Ex Federal Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf from PPP who fought election from NA-51 Rawalpindi. In the last election, he lost with more than 50 thousand votes. There is no other big name who can win from Sargodha and Rawalpindi division which are part of North Punjab. Few thousand votes in every constituency but not a single constituency where PPP can win or even fight till now.
The same situation can be seen in West Punjab half of PPP has joined PTI in recent years from Faisalabad division. In the Traditional sense, PPP has good vote bank in this part of Punjab but unable to perform or mobilize them and provide potential candidates recently Raja Raiz also left PPP two Ex MPA’s joined PTI from chiniot. One of the strong electable of Punjab Makhdom Faisal Saleh Hayat joined PPP god knows if he stays until elections or not. PPP did a good show in chiniot a few months back and they have strong candidate also in NA-86. But the overall situation is not overwhelming for PPP.
A little better situation in this part of Punjab. PPP won total of three national assembly seats from Punjab and all three from South Punjab in General Election 2013. Many notable politicians belong from PPP from this region like Gilliani Family from Multan, Makhdom family from Rahim Yar Khan some part of Qureshi Family and many more. But as per trend in Punjab, many of them joined PTI and left PPPP. After the Slogan of South Punjab separate province dynamics is changing day by day we have to wait and see which party they join or contest election from an independent platform.
If we talk about the divisions of South Punjab i.e. Multan, Bahawalpur and D.G Khan. PPP has good strength in Multan and Rahim Yar Khan. There are very bright chances of Makhdom family to win the election again from Rahim Yar Khan Constituency and in district RYK the fight will be between PPP vs. PML-N and PPP vs. PTI. If we talk about Bahawalpur division PPP has good strength there as well but not in all districts like in Bhwalnagar PPP is the wipeout. Let’s come to Multan Gilliani family is considered as one of the strongest family of this area. Son of Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Son of Rafiq Rajwana (Governor Punjab) are most likely to contest election from NA-148 which is considered as the strong hold of Gilliani Family. So it will be very difficult for PPPP to win any seat from Multan division.
The overall Current scenario of Punjab is showing that PPPP is not getting anything outstanding in upcoming General Election of 2018 and as the previous trend of Punjab the election will be between Two parties which are most likely PML-N and PTI.
