Apple’s ‘Welcome Home’ Event Today: New Smart Home Hub, HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV 4K Expected

Apple has confirmed it will hold a special event today, Tuesday, October 13, with the tagline “Welcome home”. Senior Vice President Greg Joswiak teased the date on X on October 8 with the line “Welcome home. October 13.” Media members were invited to an in-person briefing in Tribeca, New York, at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

The star of the show is expected to be an all-new smart home hub. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the device may be called HomeView and will take on Amazon’s Echo Hub and Google’s Nest Hub. The hub is rumored to have a roughly 6-inch square display, sold in two versions: a countertop model mounted on a speaker base and a wall-mounted version.

The hub is expected to serve as a central command station for the home, with FaceTime calling, a camera that recognizes household members, and widgets for news, calendar, music and video calls. Gurman reports the device will pair with LG electronics to control doorbells, thermostats, indoor security cameras and other accessories. A mid-November launch is expected, with a rumored price around $350.

Apple is also expected to refresh its living room lineup. The HomePod mini 2 is tipped to gain an N1 networking chip for faster connectivity and a faster S-series processor to handle localized Siri AI tasks. The new Apple TV 4K could pack an A19 series processor, more RAM for AI tasks, and an upgraded Siri Remote. Some reports also mention a possible OLED iPad mini.

The event is not expected to include new MacBooks, iPads or iPhones. Reports suggest a separate hardware push around October 27 will focus on M6-powered MacBooks and an OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro.
