Overseas Pakistanis Sent Home $3.59 Billion in September
Overseas Pakistanis sent $3.59 billion in remittances in September 2026, according to fresh data released by the State Bank of Pakistan. The figure was 1.9 percent lower than August’s $3.66 billion, but 12.7 percent higher than the $3.18 billion recorded in September last year, an encouraging sign for the economy.
Inflows through Roshan Digital Accounts also grew. During September, these accounts received $251 million, taking total inflows through the scheme to $14.157 billion. The Roshan Digital Account gives overseas Pakistanis modern banking and investment facilities back home and is considered an important source of foreign exchange.
Economists say remittances are the backbone of Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves and support the value of the rupee. The strong year-on-year growth in September came at a time when global energy prices remain volatile and regional tensions are adding to economic pressure. In the interbank market, the rupee stayed stable at around 277 against the dollar, a sign of market confidence.
Analysts say that if the positive trend in remittances continues, it will help control the current account deficit and strengthen foreign exchange reserves. The government and the State Bank are continuing efforts to encourage sending money through legal channels so that the use of informal channels declines and the national economy benefits as much as possible.
